| About Us | Preserve's Plastic Process |
We founded our company with the mission of spurring more recycling efforts and creating new markets for recycled materials. As awareness of the need to conserve energy and scarce natural resources grows, so does the number of communities across the U.S. that recycle. We continue to work with partners to advocate for improvements in these programs, including increased recycling of #5 plastics.
We obtain our plastics from a network of trusted providers and test every batch that we reprocess into new material. Our providers range from other consumer products companies like Stonyfield Farm®, to retail and community partners like the Park Slope Food Co-op in New York. As a result, the plastic in our Preserve products represents a mixture of pre- and post-consumer materials.
We seek to know the origins and use of all our plastics and work with our material suppliers to assure that we understand the first application of each material source.
The plastic recycling process begins with the grinding down of clean plastic products into flakes. These flakes are then melted, subjected to high heat and pressure and cut into smooth pellets. These pellets are used to make Preserve products, like our toothbrush and razor handles, tableware and kitchen products. During processing, each batch of plastic is tested for foreign elements, such as heavy metals, and all of the plastics used to make Preserve products exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s foreign elements standards for drinking water.
