It’s Easy Voting Green

Thanks to hundreds of you for voting for us in Forbes.com’s Boost Your Business competition.
We’re currently just shy of making it into the Top 5 which would give us the chance to compete for the $100,000 prize. We need at least a couple thousand votes this week to win.

If you haven’t voted yet, you have until August 31st to boost us into the Top 5!
We are one of 20 companies that made the semi-finals (out of 1,000). First prize is $100,000, which will allow us to launch our first major marketing campaign, introducing thousands to a great environment-friendly alternative to conventional household products. Please click here to cast your vote. Thank you for your support!

If You Give a Man a T-Shirt…

You’ll help 'em hide their midriff, but that’s not what this announcement is about. In our last eNewsletter, we put out a call for slogan suggestions, and you’ve responded enthusiastically. The Recycline staff fought tooth and nail over our top choices and now it’s time for you to help pick your favorite. Click here to make your slogan choice. The winning T-shirt will be posted in October and will be sold in our online store. You’ll also spot it on Preservers at Green Festivals in Washington, DC (10/6-7) and San Francisco, CA (11/9-11) and the NE Going Green Expo in Manchester, NH (10/27-28) this fall.

Are You a Picker?

Would you like to be? Check out Recycline’s naturally flavored toothpicks, made from sustainably managed birch forests and available in improved, longer lasting flavors Cinnamint or Mint Tea Tree. Our toothpicks are a healthy alternative to chewing gum, as they clean teeth and freshen breath. They’re easy to carry around in their recycled plastic container and are perfect for late summer barbeques and fall football tailgates. Who doesn’t love to chew on a toothpick? One try and you’ll be hooked. Click here to purchase your Preserve toothpicks today (they’re 15% off through 8/31) or find them at your local Whole Foods Market or natural food retailer.

Extra, Extra!

Preserve products have been on the go this summer. Since our last eNewsletter, they’ve been profiled on Sundance Channel’s The Green, our tableware made an appearance on NBC’s Today Show and iVillage Live, and was highlighted as an Ideal Bite Daily Bite and an Eating Well Editor’s Pick. Click here to view our latest media appearances, and please let us know if you spot us somewhere.

We’re also grateful for all of our friends and fans in the Blogosphere who have been talking about Preserve lately. Here are a few posts that we were psyched to see this summer: Sustainable Is Good, The Daily Flos, Daily Kos, Apartment Therapy, and World Changing.

“I want to say one word to you. Just one word.”

Plastics. They’re the foundation of our business, but not all plastic is created equal. We have avoided making our recycled Preserve products from polycarbonate because of the possible adverse effects on the human reproductive system of the additive bisphenol A. Human exposure to bisphenol A is widespread as it is also used in epoxy resins that coat the inside of many food and drink packages. Many leading scientists are expressing concern over the exposure of pregnant woman and infants to
bisphenol A.

The Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction part of the National Institute of Health's National Toxicology Program is a good place to start to learn more. The September/October 2007 issue of Mother Jones magazine discusses bisphenol A as well as the possible health risks that can result from other plastic additives, like phthalates. And, yes, you won't find any of those in your Preserve brand products.
